i have had several people ask how to restore a a/c suitcase, here is the way i redo them, easy and cheap. you have to get it off the car, not that hard, inner fender has to be off. this one is off a 71 car i restored, but 70 thru 81 are the same basic box.
here is the case off the car, has a lot of stains and is plenty dirty.

next take it apart and remove all the components, make sure you use plugs to seal off the hose fittings, get out the purple stuff and clean everything. once you have the case clean it goes to the blast cabinet with glass beads, not sand, glass beads only, this cleans and brings the fiberglass strands out

after glass beading blow off good and apply 2 coats of satin clear, this will help seal and keep dirt and grime out of the fiberglass. i also glass bead all the other components on the case, they also get satin clear. i use 3m strip chaulk to seal the suitcase halves together and also use it to seal the case to the firewall

i usually put a repo on [around 140 bucks] or i have used the 3 part paint kit that eastwood has. it consist of 3 cans of paint, green, yellow, red. it is a 3 step process and does look like the di-chromate. i also use a satin clear on the booster.
